John Ravera (1941 - 2006)

John Ravera was a highly accomplished sculptor and a past President of the Royal Society of British Sculptors. Born in Surrey in 1941, he trained at Camberwell School of Art from the age of 13.

Recognised as a master of the figurative and abstract, he utilised traditional methodologies which are now rare. His features and fountains can be seen in city centres worldwide including London, Oxford, Lagos, Tokyo, Hong Kong and the West Indies. His family group by Battersea Bridge won the RBS Silver Medal for best work in London in 1984.

In his personal work he demonstrated a range and delicacy that may surprise. Sculptures included small studies of African animals, soaring birds and ethereal female figures; capturing a rare spirit of movement. A true enthusiast, he approached each project as a new and exciting challenge.
