Philip Nathan sculpts in stone, wood and bronze. He is best known for his relief sculpture, coin and medal designs. Nathan studied at the Guildford School of Art where he was a student of Michael Rizzello, and later took a postgraduate course in sculpting silver medals at the Royal Academy Schools.
Important works include a number of commemorative pieces for the late H.M. Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother's eightieth birthday; portrait of Bing Crosby for the London Palladium; the Westminster Medallion for the House of Commons; the official Crown commemorating the Wedding of the Prince and Princess of Wales; Wreath and Coat of Arms for the Falklands Memorial, Port Stanley; portrait of Sir John Gielgud for the Apollo Theatre; official coin for H.M. the Queen's and H.R.H. Prince Philip's golden wedding anniversary and a medal commemorating the Golden Anniversary of H.M. the Queen's Accession in 2002.
He is a Fellow and founder Member of the Society of Numismatic Artists, a member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors and was 2005 winner of the Olin-Stones Award for Relief Portrait Sculpture from the Society of Portrait Sculptors.
