William Lee

Sang-Hyeob “William” Lee is an exciting young Korean silversmith who continues to work in the UK after training at University of London Arts at Camberwell College. He won the Young Designer Silversmiths award in 2003, shortly before completing his BA in Silversmith and Metal work.

He is inspired by the natural fluidity of liquids, and in his work often experiments with how gravity defines the flow of liquids and resulting solid forms. This shows both in some of his finishes but also fundamentally in the shapes of his work.

His work is clearly influenced by his interest in sculpture, which he followed by taking a sculptural foundation course at Exeter University in 2000, and later working in studio with renowned sculptor Anthony Gormley.

Having spent time on work placement with Hiroshi Suzuki from 2003, he continues to invest in his craft and in 2005 was commended in the Silversmith section of the Craftsmanship and Design Awards.   Today he holds a post of Artist in Residence at Sheffield Hallam University.

His work has been exhibited internationally, from the Victoria & Albert Museum and Goldsmiths Hall in London, to the International New York Fair in 2004.
