Sidsel Dorph-Jensen has always had a fascination with silver that ranges from its historic reference and value to its material properties.
She takes advantage of the metal's great malleability and explores the endless possibilities of expression through technical challenges, construction methods and surface texture.
Her appreciation of silver, its sterile properties, ability to keep things warm or cool and its intrinsic value has lead her to look at its functionality and potential role in our social life.
Concerned that the pieces have a place in contemporary society she concentrates on the form, function and material having a relationship with the way we conduct our actions, such as eating and drinking, and with the objects around us.
After attending the Konstfack University College of Arts in Sweden, Sidsel completed an MA in goldsmithing, silversmithing, metalwork and jewellery at the Royal College of Art, London. She has won numerous awards including The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths Young Designer Silversmith Award 2002. Her work is in both public and private collections and has been exhibited in both Europe and America.
