Jane Deakin
Jane Deakin was born in Kennington, London in 1962.   She studied Fine Art at Reading University from 1980-84.   On leaving she was selected to take part in the Young Contemporaries exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art, London.

She is inspired by nature and expresses the romanticism of natural beauty in the form of abstract painting.   She is best known for her intensely personal and evocative use of colour.   Each painting is built up in a layers of translucent colour that depends on, and in turn creates, the internal structure of the composition.   Her use of pure pigment held in a clear medium and the subtle modulations of colour intensity give even her larger paintings the quality of semi-precious stone.   Working on both board and natural materials such as slate collected from the shore of the Thames, the finished pieces take a long   time to grow.

Jane has had numerous group and solo exhibitions and her work is held in public and private collections.
