Robert was born in 1950 in Sussex and he studied at Eastbourne and Maidstone Colleges of Art. His subjects are mainly wildlife and he places great emphasis upon observing and sketching in the field. This approach lends a lively spontaneity and authenticity to the work, which is often difficult to achieve in the studio. His woodcuts are painstakingly printed by hand either in black and hand-coloured with watercolour or involve the cutting and printing of a separate block for each colour.
Robert’s work has been shown in many mixed and solo shows throughout Europe and North America and he has shown work at the Royal Academy Summer Show on several occasions. He is also featured in the book ‘Twentieth Century Wildlife Artists’ by Nicholas Hammond.
Robert was elected a member of the Society of Wildlife Artists in 1981 and a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1982.
