Ken was born in Bellshill in 1954 and studied Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art. He bases his work on observation so a large part of his painting is outdoor work. However, he does not complete works outdoors as he believes that once the painting has its own identity, it is important to develop it in whichever way it leads.
He lives and works in Broughty Ferry near
Dundee . The proximity of the River Tay and the sky above it are an influence on his work. His aim in landscape art is to emphasise the elements of land, water, sunlight and sky, and to explore the interaction between them. He has an interest in applying traditional oil painting techniques to contemporary landscape painting in order to communicate ideas and emotion within the work.
Ken has exhibited throughout
Britain and his work is held in collections worldwide.
